September 24, 2013 - From Oct. 3-13, twenty collegiate teams across North America will congregate at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, CA for the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon's final assessment and announcement of the competition's winner. These teams were challenged to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive.
Middlebury College assembled a team of over 100 students from 25 different academic disciplines to design and build their Solar Decathlon home, dubbed 'InSite'. InSite is a home for local living which was inspired by their hometown of Middlebury, VT where the community is friendly, approachable and engaging.
InSite integrated (26) Lumos LSX250 Series Modules into their 6.24kW 'Solar Path'. The Solar Path takes solar panels out of their conventional place on a roof to shade the pedestrian walkway, thus forging a pedestrian connection between the town of Middlebury and the college campus.
The competition houses will be open to visitors on 8 days over two weekends. Public hours will be from 11am to 7pm daily:
- Thursday, Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013
- Thursday, Oct. 10-Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013
Catch a sneak peak of the house and team here.
